This is the first blog post on the Đà Nẵng Diaries blog and while it may not represent the most exciting or interesting article that this blog will ever have to offer, I am still very pleased to have finally got this blog up and running; the idea has been lingering at the back of head for some time now. Every challenge that we undertake must begin somewhere and this is a great place to start.
Many of us will spend a long period of time away from hometowns and will happily share images or short stories about those experiences on social media, to be mainly read by our family and friends. However, I feel that there is often a desire held by some to go into much greater detail and offer more than just a typical tourist selfie for show on one’s profile.
Sometimes we may wish to delve deeper and discuss how we feel about what we see, hear and even smell around us. Those that can relate best to such experiences are usually those with who we can share some common ground; what may seem so important to ourselves may not resonate quite the same with those back home, but those foreign readers who are also living locally will find it easier to understand where you are coming from.
In my experience, this is why some of my previous writing has often received quite a reaction from readers; it is not the bland, falsely positive stuff that would usually solely appeal to newcomers or first-time travellers. What I will not do is talk about discovering myself, helping the underprivileged or actually try to give you the impression that I am actively trying to help other foreigners staying in Đà Nẵng in any way. My future posts will occasionally offend some, they may also be a little self-indulgent and random but at least the blog will probably deliver some content that other blogs have previously failed to deliver.
If you wish to join me on this journey, please contact me as I am open to the possibility of posting guest articles and promoting the work of writers that I genuinely like, as I have already done on a regular basis in recent times. Apart from that, I’m going to try to have a little fun with this little side project and if some people do enjoy reading the content; it will have been time well spent.
